What happens on a wedding day: a sample wedding timeline for weddings in Tasmania

What happens on a wedding day?

Planning your wedding in Tasmania and wondering what the actual day looks like? Whether you’re dreaming of a relaxed coastal elopement, a private estate wedding, or a beautiful country celebration, most wedding days follow a familiar flow. As a Tasmanian wedding planner and on-the-day coordinator, I’m here to help make sure your day runs smoothly, with every detail taken care of.

From prepping in your accommodation to dancing under the stars, here’s a sample wedding day timeline based on weddings I’ve planned and coordinated across Tasmania — from northern vineyards to the west-coast private properties and beyond.

A sample wedding day timeline for weddings in Tasmania

7:00am - 9:00am — Hair & Makeup Begins
Your beauty team arrives and begins working their magic — usually starting with bridesmaids and finishing with the bride, however this will vary depending on the amount of people you have. Have your photographer arrive towards the end for some beautiful getting-ready shots.

10:00am - 12:30pm — Vendors Arrive Onsite
Styling and set-up begins — think florals, furniture, signage and ceremony details. I’m there coordinating every element so you don’t have to lift a finger.

2:30pm – Guests Begin to Arrive
The ceremony site is ready, champagne might be chilling, and guests start arriving. You’re tucked away, finishing hair & makeup, having a first look or just taking a quiet moment to yourself.

3:00pm – Ceremony Begins
Time to say “I do”! Ceremonies generally run for 20–30 minutes, followed by hugs, confetti, and that just married high.

3:45pm – Group & Couple Photos & Cocktail Hour
We keep it relaxed but efficient. You’ll have time for group shots, then sneak off with your photographer for some couple portraits while guests enjoy drinks and canapes during what we call ‘cocktail hour’.

5:30pm – Reception Begins
Whether you’re having a sit-down dinner, shared feast or cocktail-style evening, this is when the real celebration begins, kick it off with a fun couples or even full bridal party entry.

7:00pm – Speeches, Cake & First Dance
Heartfelt words, a few laughs (and maybe tears), followed by your first dance and an open dance floor to kick off the rest of the night.

11:00pm - 12:00am – Farewell or Formal Exit
Guests send you off with sparklers, petals, or a round of applause.

Why a timeline matters:

A clear timeline ensures your day flows effortlessly — and nothing gets missed. As your wedding planner and on-the-day coordinator, I create a fully personalised runsheet that covers every detail, keeps your vendors on track, and allows you to be fully present.
